CareJan LLC ("CareJan", "we", "our", or "us") operates the CareJan mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. CareJan operates as a Domestic Referral Agency under California Civil Code Section 1812.5095.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: name, email address, password, and role selection (Family or Caregiver)
- Profile information: profile photo, bio, languages spoken, years of experience, certifications, hourly rate, and care service types offered or needed
- Health-adjacent care needs: specific care requirements you disclose (e.g., Alzheimer's care, mobility assistance, medication reminders). This information is treated with heightened security.
- IHSS information: IHSS recipient status and authorized monthly hours (if voluntarily provided)
- Communications: messages exchanged with other users through the App's messaging feature
- Payment information: subscription purchases are processed by Apple; CareJan does not store credit card or payment details
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers
- Usage data: features used, screens viewed, interaction timestamps
- Approximate location: city-level location for caregiver search (we do NOT collect precise GPS coordinates for public display)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality
- Match families with caregivers based on care needs, language, and location
- Process premium subscription features
- Provide free IHSS matching and timesheet tools
- Send important service notifications
- Enforce our Terms of Service and protect user safety
- Comply with legal obligations
4. How We Protect Health-Adjacent Data
CareJan treats all care-need data with heightened security measures.
CareJan collects care-need information to facilitate accurate matching. Although CareJan is not a healthcare provider, we treat all care-need data with heightened security:
- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest
- Care-need details are only visible to users with whom you have an accepted connection
- Access to care-need data is restricted on a need-to-know basis
- We do not sell, rent, or share care-need data with third-party advertisers
5. Caregiver Location Privacy
To protect caregiver safety and privacy:
- Caregiver locations shown in search results are approximate (city-level or zip code center only)
- Precise location information is never displayed to users who have not been approved through a mutual connection
- Caregivers may choose to display only their city or neighborhood
6. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- With other users: Your profile information is visible to other users as necessary for the matching service. Messages are shared only with the intended recipient.
- Service providers: We use Supabase for backend services. Data is stored securely with encryption at rest.
- Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government regulation.
- Safety: We may share information if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person.
7. Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:
- Right to Know: You may request details about the personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. We will delete your account and associated data within 45 days of a verified request.
- Right to Opt-Out: CareJan does not sell personal information.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

8. Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time through the App's Settings. Upon account deletion:
- Your profile, messages, and connection history will be permanently deleted within 30 days
- Any active premium subscription must be cancelled separately through your Apple ID settings
- Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained for analytics
- Data required for legal compliance may be retained as required by law
9. Children's Privacy
CareJan is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.
10. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your data as described in Section 8.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
