Sign in to browseCareJan is a registry, not an agency. Everyone listed here works for themselves. They set their own rate, keep their own schedule, and choose which families to take on. You contact whoever you want, agree the terms with them directly, and the arrangement is between the two of you. In California that makes CareJan a Domestic Referral Agency under Civil Code 1812.5095, which is a formal way of saying it makes introductions and stops there.
Profiles sit behind a free sign-in, and that was the caregivers' idea. They go into strangers' homes for work. Having their photograph, their neighborhood, and their phone number turn up in a public search was not something most of them were willing to accept. One tap with Apple or Google and you are through.
A listing tells you the city someone works in, the languages they speak, how long they have been doing this, whether they are already an IHSS provider, and their private-pay hourly rate if they have set one. The introduction is theirs, in their own words. It is usually more revealing than the rest of the profile put together.

No, and it is better you know that going in. CareJan lists caregivers; it does not vet them. Asking for references, checking work history, and running a background check if you want one is the family's job. That is what a referral registry is, and pretending otherwise would help nobody the first time something went wrong. Send a care request instead. You describe the help you need, and you hear back as caregivers who fit turn up. New people join most weeks, and the thinner areas tend to fill in once someone from there has asked.
Your family. Hours, duties, and pay are agreed between you and the caregiver, and that agreement is yours. CareJan is not part of it and takes no share of it.
